Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a blatant act of encroachment, a hotel in Ward No. 14 of Howrah Municipality has illegally occupied the road and drainage outlet belonging to the Howrah Municipal Corporation. The audacious hotel has further compounded the issue by misleadingly using the name of the Municipal Corporation for its parking area, causing increasing traffic congestion on Dobson Road, Howrah. Authorities have been conspicuously passive in addressing this growing problem.
Dr. Sujoy Chakraborty, Chief Administrator of Howrah Municipal Corporation, expressed his shock at the hotel's audacious encroachment. Hotel owners brazenly expanded their parking area onto the footpath, encroaching upon drainage outlets, and even erected a signboard misrepresenting the Municipal Corporation.
The hotel owner, Purushottam Khandelwala, has claimed that he has permission from the municipality for this parking area. However, he failed to provide any visible documentation to substantiate this claim. When the hotel owner was confronted about the illegal occupation and the dubious permission, he summoned the police for assistance. But things turned against him, the car and signboard bearing the Municipal Corporation's name were removed.
In response to this incident, Chief Administrator Dr. Sujoy Chakraborty asserted that such unauthorized parking is strictly prohibited. He promised that appropriate action would be taken against both the hotel and individuals involved in illegal parking practices.
